I want to tell you a story about the universe and how if you are in tune to it, it will deliver in big ways if you let it.
Let me explain…
First I’ll have to set the stage for the story, which will require some background and it will explain the pictures below.
Several years ago I read a book called “Bluefishing” by Steve Sims. Over the years, I have read and listened to it several more times, as well as given it as a gift and recommendation countless times. (Side note: read this book if you have not!)
I have had a long-standing offer as a way for my kids to earn $$. For each chapter book that they read and write me a one page book report, I will pay them $20. If it is a book from Dad’s library, I will increase the compensation to $30. They have never taken me up on Dad’s library, as they are “boring books.”
That was, until recently. My son Chase, 13, is working to earn money for a new keyboard. He said, “I don’t have any more books.” I said, “Well, I have plenty.” We spoke a little about what he might want to learn and we decided “Bluefishing” was exactly what a teenage boy needed to learn about.
I left for a wedding at 4 pm on Saturday and when I arrived home around 11 pm, he had already read the entire book – and wrote me a 2 1/2 page book report. One page is all that is required for me to payout. He couldn’t wait to tell me all about the book and all the fun things he learned from it. The excitement on his face, the fact that this was his first “boring book,” and all the things he took away from it were just amazing.
Ok so that brings you up to speed and here is where the story gets fun.
A few days later I was sitting at my desk jamming away at work and looked over and saw the book still sitting out. I was immediately filled with pride and became excited thinking about Chase and his experience with the book.
Full of excitement I had a thought pop into my head. I bet Steve (Author) would love to hear this story. Then immediately I started telling myself excuses, there is no way to contact him, he is a bestselling author and celebrity he doesn’t have time for this. I have no idea how I would even contact him.
UNIVERSE OPPORTUNITY #1
Most people, and I mean MOST people would have kept going at this and just given up. They would have let self doubt creep in and win the conversation, killing the excitement and shutting down the idea of sharing this moment with the Author.
Well, I’m not most Fulking people 😉
I decided to take this moment and jump on it. The thought came to my head for a reason, So let’s run down that rabbit hole. I took 5 min to write an email explaining the story and how much it meant to me. I found his website and just sent this random email to his contact us page on his website.
This is where I thought the story would end. I was ok with it, I did what I wanted at that point. I wanted to share with him the excitement I had from my son reading his book.
Because I took the time to listen to the universe as it quietly whispered to me at a moment of my excitement and took action on this quiet voice of… “send the email”.. LOL very Field of dreams I know.
But because I took action, so did the Universe. Less than 1 hour after I sent that email, I got a “ding.” I grab my phone, open the message and low and behold it’s from Steve Sims himself. He recorded a personal video to Chase. Telling him how exciting this email was to him and gave Chase some words of encouragement to keep going.
Gobsmacked, now my excitement was 10x what it was.
I immediately reply and open up a line of dialogue with Steve. Here I am chatting with someone I have wanted to meet for years. All because I listened to a quiet voice telling me to send an email.
We chatted back and forth for a while and I even got a private invite to spend a few days with him at his private speakeasy where he lives in California.
Grateful he would take the time to record a video for Chase and try to inspire him to continue on his journey, I wanted to do something special for him. I had a one of a kind gift created for him and am going to ship it out to him.
Fast Forward 2 weeks.
I’m sitting in my hotel room in Austin Tx and have a random thought about Steve and how bummed I am that I couldn’t make it to his Speakeasy event next week. Again, I hear this quiet voice, “send him a video”. So I did…
UNIVERSE OPPORTUNITY #2
I recorded a short video thanking him again for doing a video for Chase, letting him know a special thank you gift is on the way to him and wishing him success at his event next week.
In the picture below, you will notice I recorded this video while in my hotel room and there is another hotel in the background.
Moments after sending this video I get a picture back from Steve, but it’s a picture of the hotel I’m currently in.
Once again, I listened to the Universe, took action and it responded in kind.
Long story short, Steve was also in Austin Tx at the exact same time and staying in the hotel right next door to mine.
We ended up connecting in person and even ended up going to dinner together.
I now have a friendship with someone who I have been a long time fan of all because I was open to hearing and taking action on opportunities the Universe placed in my path.
The best explanation on opportunities I have heard came from Vanilla Ice, when I was talking to him a few weeks ago.
Opportunities are like windshield wipers on a car. When it’s raining, most people just stare out the windshield of the car, not paying any attention to the wipers that are passing right in front of you.
The whole point of me writing this is to tell you, there are ENDLESS opportunities that pass in front of you on a daily basis Sometimes you just need to look at the wiper or listen to the voice.
Who knows, you might just end up with something that changes your life or maybe a new friend.
